Singapore National Day

Our website, InSingapura was launched on Singapore’s National Day celebrations. In the past, the national day was celebrated at the Padang or the Float at Marina Bay and normally accompanied by dazzling displays of fireworks, dance routines, cultural presentations and lots of surprises. Post-COVID, it has been a lot quieter.
What is the National Day all about?
The National Day is a commemoration of the independence of Singapore from Malaysia in 1965.
It was on August 9, 1065, that the Parliament of Malaysia voted 126–0 to amend their constitution and expel Singapore from the federation. It was the exact day when Singapore became a sovereign nation. Thus, the birth of the Republic of Singapore. Yusof bin Ishak was the first appointed president of Singapore.
National Day Rally Speech
On the 2nd or 3rd Sunday following the National Day, the Prime Minister normally addresses the nation in a National Day Rally. The National Day Rally speech is all about the nation’s challenges, directions and is similar to the State of the Union Address of the POTUS (President of the United States).
