What is meaning of "t(h)iam / diam"?

(From Hokkien/Malay) If used as an imperative, a very rude way of saying "shut up!" or "please be quiet" But it literally means 'quiet' and can be used as in "Doing guard duty on holidays is very sian but also very diam since nobody is here."
